Maritime English for Crew
Everyday communication level is the minimum expectation on foreign-flag vessels; maritime English is a separate field.
01What this training is
We are talking about two different things. First, general English: being able to understand crew and guests. Second, maritime English: safety communication, standard marine communication phrases, ship terminology. In the hotel department the first weighs more; on deck and in the engine room the second is decisive.
02Who needs it
Anyone applying to international openings. Expectations are lower on domestic routes. Your level is assessed at interview — a certificate may not be required, but being able to speak is.
03How long it takes
It depends on your current level. For someone starting from scratch the distance is measured in months; for someone who can already communicate, in weeks.
We tell you plainly in the consultation which openings your level is enough for. If it is not enough, we tell you what level you need to reach — we do not say 'it will do', because at interview it does not.
